Write to local MP
STEP 1. If you know your electorate (pōti), use this table to find your MP.
Or manually find who your MP is using your address and then locate their contact details(email, phone).
STEP 2. Email your MP using this template.
Do not forget to fill out your MP’s name, your full name, and your address. This is very important so that your MP understands that you are their potential voter. Your address won’t be shared with anyone but your MP and their team. You can edit any outdated details and statistics with relevant information, or any points you may not wish to include and add any personal considerations you feel are important. Consider including the points in our advocacy marked as “Current Focus!” Remember, this is YOUR letter, the template provided should be treated as a guide only.
STEP 3. If you’d like to take it a step further – call your MP’s office and book an appointment.
You will most likely be talking to the MP’s staff. Talk to them about the situation in Ukraine, and your attitude towards it. Express the urgency, and that you can’t wait a few days for the meeting. And remind them that you sent them an email. Be polite and cooperative. Attend the meeting with your MP. Discuss the situation, and how it affects you. Petition your MP to act now. Again, be polite.
STEP 4. Find your MP on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and try contacting them there as well.
STEP 5. If you feel strongly about any particular point of the NZ Government’s response to the war in Ukraine,
consider starting a petition. You can also e-mail it to us, and we will consider supporting your petition if there is an alignment.
